Ben Hamlin, the longtime NBC12 sports reporter and one of seven employees laid off yesterday, told reporters this morning that he planned to start his own stupid news channel that will be way better and awesomer and not have a bunch of stupid jerks working for it.

“Think they can take the news away from me, I’ll show them,” said Hamlin, who noted he hated having to share microphones with other reporters anyways, and his way-cooler news station would have a roller coaster inside it.  “And also, also, also, also, you know what?  Know what else?  Wanna know what?  Do you wanna know what?  Also, the cameras at NBC are retarded.”

Hamlin, who has worked at NBC since 1980, reportedly told station producers after being informed his job had been cut because of economic circumstances that they were not the boss of him, then stomped up the stairs to his office.

I am very upset to here about Ben Hamlin being laid off by NBC. I’ve had the pleasure t0 witness him in action at RIR since 2002 during the NASCAR and INDY Events. He takes great pride in his work and enjoys it tremendously. I think Ben is a wonderful and gracious person. I know he won’t let this get him down and who knows, he may just start his “Own Stupid News Station”.

Ben…If you read this, I hope to see you in May at RIR in the infield. I’ll get the door for you!

I think NBC 12 were idiots to get rid of Ben, He made the sports segment exciting with his enthusiasm and professionalism….Hey Ben you’re better off without them….me too, goodbye Channel 12, hello Channel 6!!!!

Ben Hamlin is sooooo bad on television. Maybe he can write for the paper or something. I’m now a 12 watcher for good.

If you met him in person, he wasn’t very friendly. I won’t miss him. Question is, why was Sabrina left? Good to see the NICE people got bumped up to the big time (Tyrelle Brown). A word to others like Aaron Gilchrist that wouldn’t speak to a person in the grocery store if his life depended on it, “The same people you meet on the way up will remember you on your way down (and out).”

I was wondering what happened to Ben. I’ve been watching NBC 12 since forever, I’m now 60 years old. I’ve stopped watching channel 12 for some time now, especially in the early morning – can’t stand Aaron Gilchrist – he acts like his you know what doesn’t stink. Also I’ve stopped watching the 4, 5 and 6 o’clock news. Sabrina and Gene are idiots. Good luck to Ben.

Well here it is August 2009 I am trying to get my HDTV tuned in for Sunday Night Football and I find out I CANT get Channel 12 in Hanover County. Now I also find out Channel 12 has laid off some of my favorite people. Hamlin, Lepley gone? after more than 10 years for both of them? Is RAYCOM out of their minds? They should have fired the GM first.. Gene Cox is on the verge of retirement & it should be soon too.. Autry might make a good run as a cub reporter but he isn’t an anchor. LEpley should be the anchor. Dummies in Richmond think they know everything.. typical. I saw the changes they made over at Channel 6 too.. got rid of Jenifer Haynes
she was the best thing that Channel 6 Morning show had going for them. Now with that ditzy chick and her bland partner who head the morning show over there they lost the morning crowd. Who wants to wake up & look at either of them. I’d rather look at my DOG first. Even Amanda M . look haggard doing the traffic but she is the only one whose name I can remember.
