A story last week on Tobacco Avenue incorrectly reported that our publisher, Randolph J. Strummer Jr., was killed in a plane crash off the coast of Utah.  He is alive, and we have since learned that Utah does not border the ocean, nor did his plane crash.

Unfortunately, since Mr. Strummer never called our office to check in after arriving in California on Friday, we just assumed the worst, which, in hindsight, was a bad idea.  Additionally, no one here has ever taken geography.

Strummer landed safely on the West Coast, as did the plane’s 90 other passengers, plus 17 others.  We understand that the previous sentence may have flown over some reader’s heads.

This was a really, really, really bad error on our part, and for that, we’re sorry.

Going forward, we will be sure to gather and check all facts before going to print, just to ensure that whatever we publish on Tobacco Avenue is factual.  We never want such inaccurate reporting and news gathering to occur ever again.  But, you have to hand it to us, up until this point – one year old this past Saturday – we’ve never been wrong about anything we’ve printed.

Tobacco Avenue regrets the error, and because Strummer is still alive, we will resume publishing effective immediately.

You have (had?) a publisher? That is very cool. I’m CEO of my blog but hope to appoint myself chairman of the board shortly… OK, now I’m chairman.
    Great post!

Is your publisher going to apply for a bailout? My sorority is, “The Society for Nuetered Golden Retrievers with Particullarly Heavy Undercoats.”
Dodd, Pelosi, Paulson, and Bernanke have all indorsed 150 Billion contingent on the fact we have a bone hiding plan to present before approval. Visit me at http://www.SandySays1.wordpress.com

I thought the publisher would be found, dazed and confused, after the holidays, providing the staff with some time off. Or was in hiding until his deal purchasing a Senate seat from Illinois was finalized.

Thank You! Thank You! Sometimes you’re the only reason I get up in the morning.

The “twitter” lead-up to the crash seems to have gone unnoticed, but was very clever. Kudos. (which is Latin for more potato chips, please).
