Officials for alternative weekly newspaper Brick Reloaded, formerly known as Brick, have rolled out the third and final sequel for the publication, called Brick Revolutions.

“During the course of our two years doing Brick, we’ve learned a lot from our mistakes, the biggest being that we’ve been using the wrong title for the publication,” said Brick Revolutions deputy editor Lydia Braden.  “Our readers can remain confident that we’ll still have all the great content they have come to love in the Brick franchise, continuing on the whole ‘Matrix Trilogy’ theme.”

Such features, Braden said, will be a continued reporting focus by the Brick staff on the Brick staff, targeting the newspaper’s key 18-to-44 year-old demographic of the 12-person Brick staff.  It will also mimic, as much as possible, the science-fiction movie franchise starring Keanu Reeves, she said.

Like Brick Reloaded and Brick, the Brick Revolutions team will get out of the office and perform weekly Richmond-area activities such as Frisbee golf, volleyball and bending the laws of physics by running up walls or picking up machine guns in mid-somersaults, Braden said.  Staffers will then write about those experiences for themselves to read about in print in the following week.

Area media analysts were wary of the announcement.

“When Brick first came out a few years back, critics really thought it was fresh and exciting, and perhaps something the town had never seen before,” said Virginia Commonwealth University journalism professor Regina Pirron.  “The sequels, however, have been fairly disastrous.  Really corny, filled with fluff, and completely self-indulgent.  That being said, I do give Brick credit for really staying true to its mission of being as much like The Matrix Trilogy as possible.”

Like the previous two titles, Brick Revolutions will continue to feature restaurant reviews written by restaurant owners, with a possible video game release and Burger King tie-in promotion being considered for the near future.

Ah yes, the ole “way too much time on your hands” comeback when you know what’s being said is true. Don’t take it personal, Brick Boy!

Very funny. Brick has changed a lot since the Pete Humes days. I miss Humes sarcastic sense of humor but otherwise Brick is a much improved little paper. Call them sell outs all you want but there isn’t a better source of the local live music or art scene. Those kids at least have the courage to try something new and different.

Brick has turned into a zine, and a bad one at that.
