The owner of the new action word-packed Fan restaurant Verbena says his success in the first few months of business has sped plans to open a second location, called Nounena.

“We’ve found that running Verbena has really been a state of mind, revolving largely around walking, hopping and of course, lots of cooking,” whispered owner David Bess, who was skipping at the time.  “Whereas Nounena will be focused more on people.”

Added Bess: “And places and things.”

Occupying the former Carlton’s restaurant at the corner of Floyd Avenue and Robinson Street, Verbena’s most popular menu items include the speedy Prosciutto wrapped Red Snapper and jumping Roasted Quail with white truffle butter.  The menu at Nounena, however, will feature namesake, locationsake and thingsake dishes such as lamp shade soup, gymnasium pasta and Cate Blanchett steak.

Bess came to Richmond last year after a running a successful venture in Charlotte, NC, called Ctrl+X and Ctrl+Yena.  He described the selections there as “largely a cut and paste” of the menu found at Verbena.
