Richmond’s NBC affiliate said today that the Bryan Park Interchange, the consistent broadcast site for all bad weather-related on-the-scene updates, has been declared an official climate zone.

“We’re coming to you live from the Bryan Park Interchange, and I’ll tell you what Gene, the conditions here are icy and cold,” NBC12 reporter Terrell Brown relayed to anchor Gene Cox of the highway overpass above Interstate 95 that leads into Joseph Bryan Park, which is the only place outside of the studio that NBC knows how to describe the weather.  “I can safely report that the traffic from the morning commute is backed up for miles here at the interchange due to the freezing temperature and misty rain.  As for the rest of the metro area, well, you’ve probably got a better idea than me.”

The “B.P.I. Climate Zone” is the second major weather-related announcement by NBC12 in recent years.  In 2005, the news station began requiring meteorologists to note to viewers that all Richmond-area storms are “brought to you by Arby’s” after a $30 million deal to name the the company’s WeatherNet after the fast-food chain.
