An east end teenager who robbed and killed a convenience store clerk before being caught by police is being described to news reporters as – as always – a wonderful human being who would never do something like that.
“He is a good kid, full of love, and there is just no way that my baby would do something like that,” Rhonda Lipp told 8 News in a boiler-plate description of her definitely killer son, Theodore Lipp Jr., who police believe took nearly $350 from the victim before shooting him four times in the head, execution style.
“Theo is such a good boy,” she added, spouting off that same-old familiar tune.
K. Wray Corbett, a criminal justice professor at the University of Virginia, said most friends and families of violent criminals typically portray the suspects to the media as Lipp did: with rubber-stamp descriptions that have become extremely trite remarks because of their consistent inaccuracy.
“We’ve found that according to kin and friends, nine times out of 10, these vicious attackers are typically offered up as quiet people who would never harm anyone, or are really trying to turn themselves around,” Corbett said. “But most of all – and this is important - these robbers, killers, rapists and arsonists are all innocent. Every last one of them.
“Which is all total bullshit,” he added.
Richmond detective Sandy Clemens said investigators have “conclusive evidence, such as pictures, video and even written testimony from the suspect himself” that Theodore Lipp was part of a violent city gang that frequently skipped school, beat “snitches,” killed at least 15 others in the last two years and played “an integral role” in Virginia’s illegal drug trade.
“He was a wholesome child who grew up with strong family values. Studied hard, treated others like he’d want to be treated, made his money in an honest way,” Lipp’s hackneyed mother said, spewing pure shibboleth and holding up the stereotypical 20-year-old picture of her 26-year-old son in a cute sailor’s outfit. “See? He’s adorable. And he had a wonderful group of friends that really looked out for each other.”
Rhonda Lipp also denied claims that her son was a cold-blooded killer, noting “Theo”- a name she used frequently in the 2-minute interview to make him sound even more adorable than the monster he’d truly become – had warm, caring and, obviously, very innocent blood.

Four shots in the head. Strong family values, indeed.
When will 6, 8 or 12 finally stop asking them these inane questions?
Unfortunately, this is the attitude of perps families (and the media who pander to them) everywhere.
If these little mutha’s are so damned straight arrow, why in hell are the walking around with guns? Or do they just fall miraculously from the heavens above and force these little angels to do untypical things?
