The National Weather Service was accused of racial profiling today by the NAACP in the wake of more than a dozen crashes in the Richmond area, after meteorologists referred to the accident-causing suspect as “black ice.”
NAACP spokesman Gerald Atkinson called the “highly-charged” remarks both inappropriate and an insensitive mischaractersization of the frozen water.
“The statements were not only derogatory toward black ice throughout the area, but incorrect in the assumption that only black ice was to blame,” he said. “The clear ice on puddles and green ice on grass is just as responsible for today’s events.”
National Weather Service spokeswoman Edith Gardner said the organization would defend its description of the ice, noting that all races of weather – such as whiteouts – contribute to traffic accidents.

Gotta say…I posted a comment accusing you guys of being a sub-par onion rip-off at one point. Still a rip-off, I suppose, but I hereby strip the “sub-par” tag. Your articles get funnier with each posting, so keep it up.
